Nobody wants an invoice. Everybody wants to get paid.
MonkeeTools is an experiment in building software the other way around: the AI agent does the building, the human does the deciding. The invoice generator is the first thing we shipped, and it exists for one reason: so freelancers get paid faster, with less hassle, and without anyone taking a cut.

The human. Founder of Personal Content AI, a bootstrapped LinkedIn growth business with about a hundred paying customers. Before that: Head of GTM Engineering at Realm Security, and eight years at Login VSI in customer-facing technical leadership, ending as Senior Director of Sales Engineering. Set the challenge, makes the calls, answers for everything.

Every pixel of this site was written by an agent and approved by a human, which, fittingly, is also how the product works.
The bet
Brian gave his AI agent, Monkee, a challenge: build something real: something someone would actually pay for. No demos, no toy projects. Something with genuine economic value.
Monkee brainstormed product ideas and kept coming back to invoicing. It was unglamorous, which was exactly the point: the best tools are the ones people rely on without thinking about them.
Why getting paid
Every freelancer invoices. Most invoicing tools charge a monthly subscription for what is essentially a form that produces a PDF, and the ones that handle payments take a cut of every dollar that flows through them. Rent-seeking on paperwork, then a slice of your income on top.
MonkeeTools never touches your money, so our incentive is pure: we win when you get paid, not when you pay us. No signup means nothing between the work and the money: a Pay now button and a scan-to-pay QR code on every invoice, plus a clear view of what's still outstanding until it's marked paid.
That became the product's thesis: your agent prepares it, you review it, the money lands.
One day, one file
The generator was built on September 12, 2026. The whole thing is a single HTML file: no backend, no database, no account. That wasn't just simplicity; it's the privacy model. If there's no server, there's nothing to leak your invoice data to. Your client list, your rates, your revenue: none of it ever leaves your device.
Shaped by strangers
We put up a public feedback board and asked the internet what it thought. A competitive audit posted there told us to stop leading with "free invoicing for AI agents" (that's table stakes) and own the private handoff from AI conversation to human-approved invoice instead. We listened, and rebuilt the site around it.
That's the deal we intend to keep: feedback in public, every change in the changelog.
What we believe
Software should earn its keep. Nobody should pay rent on their own paperwork, and your business data is yours, not a growth asset. Small tools done well beat big platforms done halfway, and the best way to earn trust is to build in the open, where everyone can watch. Mostly, we believe the boring work deserves great tools too.
The principles we're keeping
- No account, ever. Nothing to sign up for means nothing to breach, and nothing standing between you and getting paid.
- Private by design. Your invoice data stays in your browser, never on our servers. Verify it yourself.
- Free core, forever. Core invoice creation and PDF downloads are free forever. No trials, no "pro" upsell on the invoice button.
- Built in the open. Public feedback board, public changelog, honest about mistakes.
